The EmergingEdTech YouTube Channel passed 100,000 views as subscribership doubled for this resource this year.
In 2012, EmergingEdTech videos (there are now over 8o videos) were watched more than 56,000 times, and viewers spent over 35,000 minutes (that’s over 583 hours) watching them!
Listing the most popular articles of the year is a common thing to do on a site like this as each year comes to end, but our most popular posts are already listed in a sidebar, so we’re taking a different tack. In addition to this site and popular presences on Facebook (www.facebook.com/EmergingEdTech) and Twitter (@EmergingEdTech), we also post video blog entries on YouTube and we recently surpassed 300 subscribers and over 100,000 views. It seems clear that many who are interested in leveraging technology in the educational context are taking advantage of the informative content we’re delivering through YouTube.
Here are the top 10 most-watched videos on the EmergingEdTech YouTube Channel during 2012:
1. Using The iPad As A Digital Whiteboard (Plus 4 Cool Free Apps To Use To Try It Out)

The top draw, with over 6,740 views in 2012. There are some nice free Digital Whiteboards apps available for the iPad. Free rocks.
2. Google Image Search will let you use an actual picture as your search parameter, how cool is that?

This video has drawn nearly as many views as the prior one in about half the time, making it arguably more popular. Google Image Search really is pretty cool, and many people don’t realize that you can actually search by uploading an image/picture file as your search criteria.
3. Starting A Blog Using Blogger

This popular tutorial video illustrates how to start your own blog using Blogger. Blogger is free, and it easy to start your own “blogspot.com” blog with this popular application. It’s nice to think I make have helped launch a few of these with this helpful tutorial (and the one at No. 7 below). I hope nothing has changed
4. The year of the iPad in Education: they’re being distributed in more schools every day.

This video offers a quick run through 20 articles from mid 2011 focused on iPad rollouts in schools. This rapid adoption of the iPad in schools continued right through 2012 and there is no real indication that the trend is slowing. Other tablets are being used as well, but for the time being, the iPad appears to remain quite dominant.

8. Announcing the 2012 Free Education Technology Resources eBook

The launch video for this popular free resource was watched steadily and the free eBook was downloaded steadily throughout the year as more and more subscribers signed up to receive EmergingEdTech blog posts in their In Boxes.

This video based on a guest post from early 2011 remains popular, but I think the 2012 article “15 Favorite iPad Apps As Selected By Teachers” and this corresponding video, are much more relevant and informative looks at the iPad Apps that teacher like and use.
